Azerfloat - glass production facility

STATUS: ONGOING

By investing in various sectors of the non-oil economy, the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund, which plays a significant role in stimulating the development of Azerbaijan’s economy, has also supported the expansion of operations at a local glass manufacturing facility.

“Azerfloat” OJSC, established in 2017 in Sumgayit, is the largest flat glass manufacturing plant in the region. The sheets produced range in size up to 3210 x 6000 mm and in thickness from 2 to 12 mm. The facility has a daily production capacity of 300 tons. The plant’s design and installation of advanced technologies were carried out by Germany's “HORN Glass Industries AG”, a company with over 135 years of global experience in glass melting technologies. The raw material mixing equipment was supplied by Finland's “Lahti Glass”, and the cold-end equipment was provided by Italy's “Bottero”. The plant currently employs 246 permanent staff.

As part of the expansion project, it is planned to increase the production capacity of Azerfloat OJSC’s 12-hectare thermoformed glass plant located in the Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park and to manufacture products that create high added value in the glass processing sector. The main directions of the project include:

- Sourcing quartz sand, the primary raw material for glass production, from local resources;

- Glass processing (lamination and tempering): covering various glass processing techniques.

Thanks to this initiative, Azerfloat will be able to reshape the local construction glass market, replace imports, and strengthen its leading position in the domestic market for high-value glass products. The project aims not only to meet domestic demand for glass products in Azerbaijan, but also to reduce import dependency and expand access to international markets.

Total cost of the project: AZN 33 M
